A mask works only when its inner edge lies exactly on the boundary between the disc and the tire. Yet the diameter of the wheel, the width of the tire and the profile of the disc differ between the moldings of various manufacturers by as much as tenths of a millimeter, which in 1:35 scale is enough for the mask either to overlap the tire or to leave a strip of the disc exposed. That is why masking sets are made for a particular kit; it is not a marketing restriction but a dimensional necessity. When you are building the same subject from another brand, check that it matches by laying the mask on dry before painting.
