A kit of a small farm outbuilding for a diorama in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Plusmodel. According to the manufacturer it consists of laser-cut wooden parts together with five resin castings. It is not a vehicle or airplane model: it is a structure for a scene that has to be assembled and painted.
A diorama needs something that gives the scene scale and a story. A vehicle on its own on a base is just a model, while a vehicle next to a shed is a scene. A small building also lets you frame the scene, hide its edge and create depth: part of the action stays around the corner and the viewer fills it in for himself. The shed suits rural and field scenes and works just as well in an aviation scene as a lean-to at the edge of an airfield.
Do not butt-joint the wooden parts with super glue without a test fit, because wood soaks it up and the joint warps. White wood glue with a light weight on it until it dries works better. Wash the resin parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap and glue them with super glue. Wood looks best when it is not painted with an opaque color but with thin glazes and washes that bring out the grain. Weathered wood can be suggested with a light dry brush of pale gray over the edges.
