Two finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, eighteen centimeters tall. The beech is the typical tree of Central European forests. In a dense closed canopy it has a high-set crown and a long bare trunk, because the trees take the light from each other lower down, whereas a solitary beech in the open forms a broad vaulted crown reaching almost to the ground. The pair therefore suits either a stand of trees or two separate trees by a lane.
The trees are pushed into a pre-drilled hole or glued by the foot of the trunk. With eighteen-centimeter pieces make the hole deeper and fix the trunk with a drop of glue. In a forest set them close together, as touching crowns are normal in a beech wood. Leave the ground beneath them almost bare, with nothing but leaf granulate. Do not set the pair symmetrically, and tilt one tree slightly.
For builders of layouts and dioramas with forest scenes and for modelers filling in existing growth. The pair can be split and each tree used elsewhere, so that the same species repeats within the scene. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
