San Giorgio Tipo C / late gunsight - resin accessory 1:32 (Quickboost / Aires)

This product is not an airplane model. It is a small detail part in cast resin that replaces the simplified plastic gunsight in the cockpit. It is intended for the kits of the Italian fighters Macchi MC.202 (late version) and C.205 V Serie III in 1:32 scale from Italeri. The San Giorgio Tipo C reflector gunsight in its late form was one of the most conspicuous features of the instrument panel of these machines, and in this scale it is therefore very visible.

Why change the gunsight

The gunsight sits right in the line of sight into an open cockpit and is one of the first parts a viewer notices. Injection-molded plastic always has its limits with structures this thin - the frame tends to be thicker than it should be and the fine detail of the mounting merges together. A resin casting manages crisp edges, thin walls and cleanly cast brackets, so once painted the gunsight looks like a real instrument and not like a block of plastic.

Working with resin

• Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent - this removes remnants of the mold release agent, which paint will not key to.
• Cut the casting block off with a fine saw or a snap-off knife, never break it off - resin is brittle.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate, ordinary plastic cement does not work on resin.
• Use primer before painting; sand carefully and with respiratory protection, resin dust must not be inhaled.
• The clear glass of the gunsight can be added from thin film or a drop of gloss varnish - the set itself may not include the glass.
