The Royal Model line of single figures completes models of vehicles with the element that only then gives a scene scale and action. This item represents a German infantryman from the period of the Second World War and is intended for building dioramas and for display on its own. With its figures the Italian manufacturer concentrates on the small details of kit that can still be reasonably painted in the large military scale.
The basis of the German army throughout the war was infantry, not armored formations, as is often claimed. An infantryman wore a field blouse in the feldgrau shade, a steel helmet, leather harness with support straps, a bread bag, a canteen, a case for a gas mask and ammunition pouches. The exact appearance changed over the years: the cut was simplified, quality materials grew scarcer and part of the kit was made from substitutes. In a diorama it therefore pays to set the figure in a particular year and battlefield; that alone decides the coloring and the choice of accessories around it.
Feldgrau is not one color but a whole range from gray-green to almost gray; choose the shade according to the scene and the light the model will stand in. A darker base, gradual brightening of the edges and the taut places and finally a thin filter to unify everything all work well. Mix the leather harness warmer than the cloth, so that the figure does not merge into a single tone.
Paints and glue are not enclosed and the figure is without a surface finish, so it awaits the usual modeling preparation.
