A plaster brick bridge in 1:35 scale from the Royal Model brand measures roughly 13 x 10 x 6.5 cm and forms a finished foundation for a landscape scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
The casting captures a small arched bridge of bricks together with the adjoining stretch of bank. The manufacturer casts it in plaster and gives the dimensions as approximately 13 x 10 x 6.5 centimeters, which makes it a piece a whole scene stands on rather than a mere accessory. In size it suits 1:35 scale and is usable for figures a step larger as well.
Arched brick bridges were built in Europe by the thousand from the nineteenth century on: cheap, quick and sized for a cart and a herd. When armored vehicles were to cross them, their limit showed at once. Combat engineers therefore measured the load capacity before an advance and strengthened the arch with beams, or the column set off to look for a ford. A destroyed bridge, in turn, reliably stopped a whole axis of advance, so it was among the first targets of demolition parties and among the first tasks of bridging units.
The material is porous and drinks paint in, so soak it first with a heavily thinned acrylic primer and let it dry thoroughly. For joining it to neighboring parts and for seating it in the groundwork use PVA glue, not cyanoacrylate. Brick masonry then comes out best worked from the top down: a lighter tone on the faces, a dark wash into the joints and a dry brush on the edges at the end. Add the irregular patches of damp and moss by stippling, so that the wall does not look uniform.
