1:400 ORP 'Orzeł' [Polski Okręt Podwodny 1939] (MODEL SET)

Mirage Hobby 1:400 ORP Orzel - Model Set

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Polish submarine ORP Orzel in 1:400 scale from Mirage Hobby. Besides the kit itself, the Model Set form holds a set of basic acrylic paints, glue and a brush for a quick start on the build.

The real subject

ORP Orzel was one of the two submarines of the class of the same name in the Polish Navy of the late 1930s. She stood out for solutions that were advanced for their day, among them an all-welded hull. In 1939 she became famous for her escape from internment in Tallinn and her passage to Great Britain, in what became known as the Eagle odyssey.

Building and painting tips

In the small 1:400 scale, watch for clean cutting and sanding of the small parts. The hull can be built whole; glue the fine superstructure features carefully. The model comes out well on a simple stand and with restrained weathering bringing out the decks.
