An injection-molded plastic model of the German jet fighter Messerschmitt Me-262 A-1a / U4 in the large 1:32 scale from the Revell brand. What is special about this variant is the armament: instead of the usual four 30 mm cannon, the barrel of a massive 50 mm MK 214 A cannon protrudes from the nose. The set contains newly developed parts for the characteristic nose of the U4 version and is complemented by a detailed cockpit and detailed engines. It is a larger build intended for more experienced modelers.
The Me-262 was the first jet fighter in the world to be deployed in series, powered by a pair of Junkers Jumo 004 engines. The U4 designation (Umrüst-Bausatz, a conversion kit) refers to the conversion that was to turn the Me-262 into a destroyer of bomber formations (a Pulkzerstörer): a large-caliber 50 mm MK 214 A cannon was built into the nose, with which the aircraft was to attack formations of Allied bombers from a safe distance. Only a few prototypes were built and tested; one of them fell into the hands of the American army.
Glue the parts with modeling cement for plastic; align the large areas of the fuselage and wings carefully in 1:32 scale, and fill and sand the seams. It pays to paint and shade the cockpit and the engines carefully before closing the fuselage. Apply a primer before painting and use an airbrush; German camouflage of the end of the war rewards accentuated panels and a light shading wash.
