Responsibility details are not available.
A screen-printed decal sheet in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer DK Decals. This is not a kit but a set of markings for a model of the Consolidated PBY Catalina flying boat. The sheet carries eight camouflage and marking options for five machines named after stars: Vega Star, Altair Star, Rigel Star, Antares Star and Spica Star. Three of the eight options belong to the same aircraft in a different operational state and one captures a machine in BOAC colors.
Between 1943 and 1945 Qantas Empire Airways ran a transport service over the Indian Ocean between Western Australia and Ceylon jointly with the RAF. The route was flown without an intermediate landing and the flight lasted over twenty hours, so the crew and the passengers saw the sunrise twice on a single trip. The machines therefore carried civil registration marks as well as RAF military serial numbers. Four of the five were of the PBY-5 type, while the last, Spica Star, was a PB2B-1 from Canadian license production.
The decals are released in water and applied over a gloss clear coat, which prevents silvering of the carrier film. A softener settles the markings onto riveted areas and over the curves of the hull. Once dry it is a good idea to cover everything with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, depending on the surface you want.
This is a decal set. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
