Turkish Spitfires 1:48 is a Tiger Head Models decal sheet covering the Spitfire Mk.Ia, Mk.Vb and Mk.IX in the markings of the Turkish Air Force. These are supplementary markings, not a kit.

A decal sheet in 1:48 scale aimed at the Supermarine Spitfires in the service of the Turkish Air Force, and in no fewer than the three versions stated in the name — Mk.Ia, Mk.Vb and Mk.IX. With one sheet you thus cover several different kits. The package contains decals only; the plastic models have to be obtained separately.
The Spitfire went through fundamental development during its service and the individual marks differ from one another enough to be told apart at first sight. The Mk.I represented the early form with a two-blade or three-blade propeller and light armament, the Mk.V was the mass-produced version with a more powerful engine and the one most used in the middle period of the war, and the Mk.IX came about as an answer to the new German fighters, with two-stage supercharging and a characteristic longer nose with two rows of exhausts. Turkey was among the countries where British fighters arrived away from the main theaters, and their markings differ from the British ones enough for a model to stand out from the ranks at once.
Because the sheet covers three different marks of Spitfire, read carefully which motifs belong to which version — the size and position of the insignia differ between the Mk.I and the Mk.IX. Before you start, take a photograph of the sheet or scan it, so that you know what you have used where. Apply over a cured gloss clear coat, cut the decals out close and use a moistened area for settling them. On the wings it pays to check the symmetry of the two sides against each other, because asymmetrical national insignia are noticed at once on a Spitfire. Once dry, seal with a clear coat and only then apply the patina.
