About product

Ferrari F150 1:20 — a Studio27 photo-etched set (for Fujimi kits)

Do not let the name confuse you: this is not a kit and it is not a model. It is a set of additional parts from the Japanese maker Studio27 that you build into the Ferrari F150 kit from Fujimi in 1:20 scale — and you have to own that kit, otherwise you will not know what to do with the contents of the package. The photo-etched parts are moreover cut to measure for one particular Fujimi kit, so they do not fit a model from another maker. Please check which kit you have at home before ordering.

The real subject

The Ferrari F150 is a Formula 1 single-seater from the 2011 season, not a pickup — the name referred to 150 years since the unification of Italy. An unexpected story came out of it, though: Ford went to court over the name, because it associated it with its F-150 pickup, and Ferrari preferred to rename the car the 150° Italia. Behind the wheel sat Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa; Alonso won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone with the car, Ferrari's only victory that year.

Why a photo-etched set changes the result on a Formula 1 car

  • Injection-molded plastic cannot do a truly thin edge. A radiator grille on a kit is only a suggested engraving — photo-etched brass sheet is as thin as real sheet metal converted to scale.
  • A single-seater has nowhere to hide mistakes. A Formula 1 car is completely exposed: the seat belts, the buckles, the wires, the trim and the radiators are visible from all sides.
  • The cars of 2011 are full of flaps, slots and vanes — and in plastic those are always too thick. Photo-etched parts make them as thin as they really are, and that is exactly the main reason for going for this set.

What to have ready

  • An etch bender — the parts have to be bent into shape; without one you will make do with a razor blade and firm tweezers.
  • Cyanoacrylate glue — plastic cement does not glue brass.
  • Reckon with the fact that the original plastic detail often has to be sanded away. It is an irreversible step, so measure twice.
  • Tweezers, a magnifier and a steady hand. The set belongs in the hands of a more experienced modeler.

Who the set is for

For the modeler who builds the Ferrari of the 2011 season from Fujimi and wants the details at the level of the real car — not merely suggested in plastic.

The package holds additional parts only. The kit, the glue, the paints and the tools are not part of it.

FAQ

Yes, it is a Formula 1 single-seater from the 2011 season. The name referred to 150 years since the unification of Italy. Because of the similarity to the Ford F-150 pickup a dispute arose and Ferrari renamed the car the 150° Italia.

No. This is purely a set of parts for an upgrade. The Ferrari F150 kit from Fujimi has to be bought separately — without it the photo-etched parts have nowhere to go.

No. The photo-etched parts are designed for one particular Fujimi kit and follow its shapes. They will not fit a model from another maker, so check your kit before buying.

Often yes. For a photo-etched part to seat, the original molded detail has to be removed. Sanding is irreversible, so work slowly and keep test fitting as you go.
